Day1: Progress
Since June I have been tutoring 5 students who are either entering Kindergarten or first grade this August. My goal is to use a tool that can be used with these students-which is the reason I chose Storybird. Today I introduced this tool to my soon to be first graders. I am not sure if it was my lack of expertise or the tool itself that caused the issues we had today. I practiced using this tool the night before and felt that pretty comfortable, but today had some issues. I did not find it "user friendly" and the lack of pictures frustrating. However, my students were excited about writing their own stories, after viewing stories shared by other students. Where am I now? Trying to iron out the kinks and finish up my lesson plan! If you have used this tool-feel free to share any thoughts, advice or help in any way! Thanks!

Amanda,
ReplyDeleteGreat incorporation of the tool. They did a very nice job for a first grader. I am interested to know what the steps you took to create. Did you guys pre-plan or just open the tool and create as you went?

Lacy,
ReplyDeleteWe opened the tool and picked an artist to use. Since you are limited to the drawings Storybird provides, I felt a look would be beneficial. After, we wrote a rough draft (folding paper to make 4 squares). Then published using Storybird. She did most of the typing...I only had to help a few times. I am using my lesson with a 4th grader tomorrow and I'm excited to see what this age level can do!
Hello Amanda!
ReplyDeleteConsidering how young your students are, I can see how finding the site to have a lack of pictures could be frustrating. Keep at it, I am sure that having them use the tool will still be beneficial!
